Menswear fashion week in Milan

I just love the combination of bracelets and the skirt. (seems like Celine skirt that I admire)
And also the yellow colour between beige, white and black.

I think the animal print and accessory is in trend right now.
I really like the bracelets.

Very cool and cute Prada see through clutch!

This is an amazing example of contemporary mix and match look.
Everything seems to be working so well with each other. And it looks perfect with the background. Mix of Lux and street style.

Look what we have here,
This gentleman has a small jungle inside his jacket.
Tiger pattern and snake necklace worn like a tie.

Tommy Ton hits the street in Milan during the menswear
fashion week to shoot street fashion photographs.
Everything is bold and colourful from clutches to accessories,
not only for the ladies but also for the gentlemen.

Burberry Prorsum Fall 2010 Menswear

Just love the golden large button decorations on the shoulder
and around the sleeve from above img.
It reminds me of 18th century military uniform.
It makes the garment look delicate and delicious.

Leather garments don't have to look heavy.
This look clearly proves the point.

Cute and interesting shapes with refreshing blue colour.
Also the placement of pockets is intriguing.

I think these aviator inspired jackets and coats look very
delicate yet masculine and powerful.
There is a great combination between oversize silhouette and the
warm and delicate pastel tone colours
.

I need to adjust my colour palette as some of them were labeled
a bit 'dusty' at the critic. I think these colour palettes are very clean and that has
similar mood with my current colour palette so I should
learn from these looks to have more clean colour palette.

I think this was the one of my favourite menswear collection up to date.
It wasn't extremely dramatic but it had everything in the package.
Bailey gave a little twist in every single items and established an innovative collection.

John Galliano: menswear

Interesting fabrication with sheen.
I am looking for a fabric likewise as it was something that was discussed during the critic.

This trench coat is mixed with Galliano's figrant dandyism.
Clean cut. I also really like the tiny knotted belt.

Recent John Galliano's Spring 2011 collection was very intriguing inspired by the classic iconCharlie Chaplin . Again, I was looking for trench coats like always!! Here are the looks that I found interesting. These two looks took a modern approach of tench coat.

Prada Skirt

Img reference: http://jackandjil.com

This A-line skirt turned into pleated skirt just by using the digital print.
I think this kind of skirt is more intriguing than the pleated skirt.
I really want to utilize digital print that features pleating or knitting.

Cropped denim top

Img reference: http://jakandjil.com/

I think she's wearing a really cool denim cropped top.
It has an edge.
Somehow I'm really into denim shirt these days..Maybe
I should adjust my own denim shirt to make something like this.
Just a small detail makes it different.

Design Process

I cut off the sleeve and draped with wool like polyester in bias.

I still need to figure out the back.

Pleated with sleeve.

I wanted to create something that is tailored and fitted contrated with draped fabric.

Martin Margiela

Margiela used the body’s movements to influence garment shapes, such as a trench coat from AW 2002/03 that evokes the look of someone sheltering themselves from the rain under the coat. Rei Kawakubo of Comme Des Garcons also embraces unconventional ways of dressing, by “encouraging the boundaries between occasion-specific wear and every day wear to collapse” (Quinn 2002)

Proenza Schouler

Proenza Schouler became one of my mentors after I watched their documentary.
I think it is really a tough job to work as a duo as it is not about one person's opinion but there is a neccesity of collaboration between two designers.

For their resort 2011 collection, their range focuses on textiles with clean cuts and silhouettes.
I really like the colour combination and subtle details on the textiles.

Project runway US

IMG reference: http://www.zimbio.com/pictures/PSUPMZTa_X1/Project+Runway+Runway+Fall+09+MBFW/A6mkE-cTlyJ

One day you're in, the next you're out!

I just love to watch project runway US while I'm having my precious break time.
I feel like I get stressed out as the contestants get frustrated but also get very pleased with their outcomes.
I think this show gives me new perspectives through the judge's comments.
I sometimes don't agree with their overall comments as sometimes it seems they tend to have similar critics.

Anyways, it gives me some really good ideas when to push the envelope and when to stop and the way of making modern garments that are appealing to public.

Most of all, I sympathise with their situation as it is exactly what I am going through right now.

YSL “New Vintage” Collection

"The Stefano Pilati designed collection featured classic YSL designs made out of left over fabrics from previous seasons and were available for purchase by party-goers. Guests at the event included socialites Julia Restion-Roitfeld and Caroline Sieber, Purple’s Olivier Zahm, Barneys Creative Director Simon Doonan, and others. Continue reading for additional event photos. "

Very inspiring window display and it represents the vintage concept very well!

Inspiring designs

These are from Alexander Wang's recent resort collection.

Alexander Wang is one of my favourite designer and a mentor.
His designs are always balanced well.

Often he deconstructs the features of menswear.

The trouser at the top is beautifully draped and also the second look is cute and classic.

The characteristics of his design aesthetic is that they all look effortless.
And this is what I really want to achieve in my collection as well.

Textile

Exterior of the building in CBD
Very intriguing!!

So this is my textile that I will be using for one of the digital print!

Design

This is the design process of a jacket and a vest that I'm planning to
include in my collection.
I will be using wool crepe for the upper draped part and thinking of using
wool gab or medium weight denim fabric.

It is all about the balance between fluidity and stuctured silhouette.

Colour palette

Series of green
+ pastel purple
beige& brown!

Draping

Pastel purple with beige.
Lots of gatherings with middle part of the trench coat.
Again, big buttons.
I can make a jacket out of this shape or a vest with shorter sleeve.

Painting

Highlighting features of trench coat

Belts,
Double stitching,
Pockets,
Epaulettes

Inspiration collage

Some of the black and white images are from books and background images are
from magazines.
I juxtapositioned these together to create the overall mood that I'm aiming to achieve in collection which is modernity and nostalgia.

Draping

Some experiments that I did over the weekend.

I just love doing draping, you never know what you will end up getting!!
